- the means of going into a “field” as researched, you record what you see, either written, photographs, or drawing.

- may seek out a specific personal experience on your topic
- ex: if you were writing an essay about a specific topic, you could go to a place that would know something about the topic.
questionnaires and surveys
- can get information about your topics
- you need to create a clear and unbiased survey
- you need to get a representative response to help with your essay
interviews
- you can talk to experts about your topic
- you need to find the right person to talk too
- next step is to be patient and courteous phone calls, until you find the right person
- you can interview face-to-face or over the phone
- if someone in your class is researching the same topic, you can go together too the same expert
library and internet research
- the distinction between library and internet research is pretty blurred now
- library databases are better for research essays then just the internet
